School Volunteering

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is an agreement between two or more parties outlined in a formal document. It is not legally binding but signals the willingness of two parties and is intended to express a common vision.

Whilst volunteering in Schools, it is important to think about implementing an MOU between the project and the school that outlines each party's responsibilities. An MOU provides YUSU, our student volunteers, the projects and their schools with whom they work with a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities to ensure expectations are met and volunteering activity is safe and mutually beneficial for volunteers, schools and children.

An MoU should cover YUSU's responsibilities, the student volunteers responsibilities, the schools responsibilities and the responsible person in the schools responsibilities. It may also cover Student Supervision Arrangements, DBS Checking, Privacy and Insurance.

It's really important to consider getting an MOU in place with partner organisations. If you do want to set these up and need support from YUSU please get in touch with Jasmine at j.pledger@yusu.org. The template below can act as a guide.
